An inclusive community dance theatre company.
The company rehearse every Friday, currently on Zoom.
There are no auditions, just 4 trial sessions, if you are interested in joining please contact us.*
9.30am - 12.30pm meeting, warm up, rehearsals
12.30pm - 1.30pm lunch ( bring a packed lunch, tea and coffee provided)
1.30pm - 3.30pm Art and Production
(Open House and community groups provide recreational sessions, and the experience can be used as a pathway into the main company.)
All work is devised by the company through improvisation and collaboration.
We welcome artists from other art forms.
Cost:
we have introduced a low fee / suggested donation or energy exchange.
£6 for the morning and £4 for the afternoon
The company age range is currently 18 - 75 years old.
(Currently we don't recommend it for under 10's due to the length of sessions and performance commitments, for under 10's we recommend Shallal 2 which has shorter sessions, performance opportunities and no age boundaries.)
Shallal Dance Theatre creates indoor, outdoor and site specific performances, works on projects and provides outreach performances of approx 20 - 30 minutes on request.
We are always looking to widen our opportunities, currently we are working with improvising musician George Bradley - Peer.
Recent sessions in our Back Lane West residency by Sapphire Sumpter. Many thanks to Sapphire.
Fantastic to be sharing with Amici and Wolfgang Stage and others joined us!

Shallal was formed in 1985 by Jo Willis - dance facilitator, Annamarie Murphy - performance, and Diana Morris - voluntary administrator.
It grew from the request of the local Gateway Club to help them create a performance for a review. The talent, response and enthusiasm of everyone involved led to more performance requests and to it becoming a day work experience placement for members and soon local artists asked to join. Anna left to pursue her highly successful career and Diana supported Shallal till it paused in 1998. It restarted in 2001 at the invitation of a local Healthy Living initiative and became a charity in 2005. Although struggling to survive at times with no core funding we are still here and thriving. Thank you to all who have been part of our journey so far.
