Originally a Healthy Living Group, they enjoyed dance so much they came up with their name and performed for friends. They are still going strong after 8 years.
History
Friends and Dancing originated from a Healthy Living Group run by nurse Debbie O'Nyons.
Shallal were invited to provide dance as an accessible, fun and expressive form of exercise. The dance element was so successful that the members named it Friends and Dancing (FAD), and performed to family and friends at the end of the 10 weeks.
The group then performed at the Big Health Day at the Eden Project on November 11th 2010.
In 2011 the group became a Shallal community group - similar to Open House
Performed at Falmouth Art Gallery on 30 March 2011.
A Sponsored Dance.
Christmas gathering at The Performance Centre, 14th December 2011.
Performed on June 1st 2012 at Gyllngdune Gardens as part of Shallal's pilot Cornish Doorways project
The group now holds twice yearly Sharings for family and friends to see their work.
7 members from FAD have progressed into Shallal Dance Theatre, and 8 members have gone on to Shallal 2, since it started.
We are grateful to Fal Care, The Dracaena Centre, facilitators and volunteers for their ongoing support.
The Dracaena Centre is a vibrant and supportive community centre with its own thriving community cafe. www.dracaenacentre.org
