Many thanks to the Arts Council for funding Embodied Space at exciting varied Cornish Venues.
Embodied Space is an approach to improvised performance that Shallal has explored and now wants to share:
".......keeps the element of surprise and playful spontaneity often missing in our lives and art, bringing the joy of creation, as in a session, to the professionalism of performance in a public space, Shallals unique performance style enables the audience to experience both."
It is built from skills and approaches distilled and learnt from Pop Ups, Always New and Shallal Shared.
It has travelled to familiar supportive partners such as Falmouth Art Gallery and to new ones such as Kestle Barton, Tremenheere Gallery, Minack Theatre Car Park, Midsummer Dance Sterts Theatre.
and this term to:
Eden Project Arts Weekend
Trerife House, Penzance, (via Spindrift's 'Flock'),
this Friday 7.30pm 27 September to Liskerett Centre, Liskeard
finishing at Newlyn Art Gallery 23/24 January 2020.
Dancers from Shallal Dance Theatre work alongside those in Shallal 2 and Out There to share skills, experience and performance opportunities.
Workshop with Continuum Dance who will join them at the Liskerett Centre.
Insights and learning are supported by mentoring for Shallal's creative team with Harry Theaker.
Musician George Bradley peers visited Shallal 2 prior to our first performance.
Shallal 2 have requested more experience working with Live music.
George and Shallal dancers also visit The Liskeard Shallal group with Continumm Dance and Thomas Remenant on 25 September to expand their experience.
Feedback from workshop sharing this style with Continuum Dance.

In the spirit of inclusion, in which we ask for donations for sessions (with a suggested fee), we are trialling asking for donations at the end. The Liskerett centre is our first 'pay what you can afford' performance.
Many people are naturally reluctant to pay for something unknown, we live and work in low income areas, we want to increase our audience and this enables family members, carers, support workers to come along and try it and to leave when they wish.
Two Embodied Space 'performances' for a film project at Trebah Gardens, Sorrowful Songs on the beach and Duets on the bridge and in the garden of the house. Working with our mentor Harry Theaker.

Shallal's creative director Jo Willis says, " It has taken me about 30 years to come up with the simple structure/guidelines that enables this. I have been watching and assimilating the way people work in inclusive improvisation, and am so happy now and excited to see it roll out and adapt to varied venues and mixtures of performers. I have always enjoyed Arts council applications as they let you fully focus on the art and try something new."
Audience feedback has supported the performers and my love of it, "powerful, mind blowing, soul moving."
Thank you it was lovely to watch :)
The most beautiful thing I have seen in a long time. Thank you.
Really enjoyed that! Thanks
